Baseball Card Theater T. Sean Shannon's favorites 1973

Just wanted to share this great video based on the 1973 Topps cards

Enjoy

1973 Topps

1973 Topps-Chris Speier #273

Many thanks to the following blog "1973 Topps Photography"
Game: July 14, 1972  Philadelphia @ San Francisco

Updated Game: June 4, 1971 San Fransicso @ Philadelphia

Update: Rob might just be correct "I looked at 1971. On June 4, 1971, Tim McCarver (#6) was the catcher, and Bobby Pfeil (#18) was the third baseman. In the bottom of the 8th Speier scored from 3rd on an infield single off Chris Short. I think that might be the play."
Good Call Rob!

What I know thanks to (smedcards) comment on the blog:
"Bateman played for the Phils in SF in July. On July 14, Speier (batting THIRD!!) scored from second on a single by Ken Henderson off of Mac Scarce in the 7th. The other games in the series don't lead itself to a play such as this."
Adding more to this comment, Chris Speier walked then went to second on a wild pitch setting up the single by Henderson for the play at the plate. Playing third in the background is Don Money and my first guess is that might be either the bat boy or Dave Kingman who is on deck.

Good Call Rob!

1981 Donruss Pirates

This one is very interesting.
1981 Donruss Pirates pitchers Grant Jackson and Eddie Solomon. What I find cool about these photos is the fact that they are wearing different pants and stirrups but the tops are the same. One of the many away combos the Pirates used back in the 80's

Before I dive into the cards here is an interesting note taken from http://wrigleywax.blogspot.com/ about the card photos.
"Wagon Gates: The gates were a reddish brown color. Today they are green and have ads placed on two of them. The gate behind Eddie Soloman is no longer there".

1981 Donruss #15-Grant Jackson
1. Pitched in two games, but it was a double header. So, the photo was taken on Aug 6th 1980. Just not sure on which game. He pitched the 7th inning of game one and then came in at the 7th of game 2  and pitched 3 innings of relief for his 6th save. Nice uni note with the black pants.

1981 Donruss #16-Eddie Solomon
1. Pitched two games at Wrigley that year.
2. Game one was Aug 7th, a complete game. The second game was Sept 26th when he came in relief of the candy man for 1/3 of an inning.
Based on my internet old newspaper finds from an old grainy photo, my guess is that the photo was taken on September 26th.

Photos solved?

1981 Donruss #134-Jim Bibby

Funny things is after looking at my cards I noticed this gem. Same game as Grant Jackson!

Game:
August 6, 1980 at Wrigley Field

Box Score Line
Pittsburgh Pirates IP H R ER BB SO HR BFP
Bibby 6 8 5 5 2 3 2 26

Grant Jackson took the hill in the 7th in relief.

1981 Donruss Mets

My first attempt to figure out the time and place the photo was taken. Thought it would be interesting to start with the cards from my childhood collection.

1981 Donruss Roy Jackson #36
According to Baseball Reference
1. Roy Jackson pitched in a game on Sept 22 in relief of Mark Bomback, pitching 2/3 of an inning

1981 Donruss Mike Scott #37
1. Mike Scott started the game on Sept 23 lasting 1 2/3 of an inning.

At first I thought that maybe it was the same game only because of the guy with the fro in the left corner of each photo. But now looking it over closely, the guy must have been at both games?
